    The Mombacho Volcano Nature Reserve is one of 78 protected areas of Nicaragua.

    The highest region of the volcano is home to a cloud forest and dwarf forest, which contains flora and fauna that are endemic purely to the volcano. An increasingly popular tourist attraction, the volcano has fantastic views of Lake Nicaragua and the city of Granada.

    Las Isletas is an archipelago of 365 little volcanic islands (one for each day of the year) situated inside Cocibolca Lake, 3 Km. far from Granada city. All these islands are luxuriant, rich in fauna and flora, especially in water birds.

    You can visit islands by little ship’s boats leaving from Asese port or Cabaña Amarilla port both situated in the South end of Malecón of Granada. By these boats you can run through narrow canals that divide islands and admire a fortification of XIX century, which is on San Pablo Island, and a monkey-colony living on a little isle: when the boat comes near the shore, monkeys arrive all excited!

    Most of these islands are private, some fisher family live yet there.

    Granada is fairly easy to reach from most of the country. It is only 45 minutes away from the Managua International Airport. It is a great base to explore the main tourist attraction in the part of the country.

    From Managua International Airport most Managua Hotels are located in a range from 1 km to 20 kms.

    Taxi and public bus: Be aware that taxis in Nicaragua are shared cabs or “colectivos” – so they actively seek and stop to pick up more passengers. Foreigners, particularly new visitors, should be clear of the level of comfort and safety risk they are going through when choosing these means of transportations. You can catch either an official airport taxi – which should cost about $15 to take you to a hotel within Managua-, or cross the main road and catch a taxi from the street – which should cost no more than $5.

    Isla de Ometepe: You have two options coming from Ometepe to Granada, and viceversa- a direct ferry from Altagracia in Ometepe to Granada or a boat from Moyagalpa to San Jorge-Rivas where we can pick you up to take you to Granada.

    San Juan del Sur: From Granada is a two and half hour ride to San Juan del Sur beaches. Some of the beaches there are great for surfing and other are just great for relaxing.
